Green? Initiatives

With all the talk about green technology and saving the planet, let’s examine two initiatives of Democrats and evaluate the programs for environment friendliness.

Masks: Whether is the the mask mandate of large chain businesses, Joe Biden’s federal mandate, multi-mask guidance from Anthony Fauci, or the state imposed requirements of your Democratic governor, masks have proliferated. Good Morning America recently reported:

It is estimated that 129 billion face masks and 65 billion gloves are being used monthly. Unfortunately, while PPE is a necessary tool, its increased use is having detrimental effects on the environment, especially our oceans….Nearly 1.56 billion face masks entered our oceans in 2020 alone, during the onset of the pandemic, according to a December 2020 report published by Hong Kong-based ocean conservation group, OceansAsia.”

Concerns include the composition of often- Made in China masks with various microplastics and chemicals sewn in. Once worn, the effects on the human body have not been studied at this point, nor have the implications of contact with marine life and / or leaching into water supplies. The fact is hyper- response to covid globally poses a concern to the environment. Sadly, in the U.S., there is a clear partisan divide as most Republican-led states are using significantly less masks and Democratic-led states are and will continue to use much more. The question is: Which poses a greater health risk? When will the outrage commence in protection of the environment or public health due to long-term exposure to chemicals such as polypropylene in N95 masks. In a 2019 study, toxicity was evaluated and “researchers found that some polypropylene products affected androgen hormones and caused a toxic or stress response in cells.”

Clean Energy” The electric car, the darling of green energy movement is not only 4 times more efficient than gas-powered cars, but obviously has no exhaust emissions. They are also incredibly fast and fashionable. But are they clean?

Government subsidies and impending spending under planned infrastructure upgrades focus on promoting a change to electric cars and creating widespread refueling charging stations. The most glaring pretension is that electric cars are believed to run cleanly. Yet, the majority of the electricity used to recharge them comes from the burning of FOSSIL FUELS. See the graph below. How many decades and how many trillions would it take JUST to make renewables a 50% source of energy.

Moreover, the sourcing of electric car batteries with “lithium-ion rechargeable battery which relies on critical mineral commodities such as cobalt, graphite, lithium, and manganese” is troubling not only for the impact of fossil fuel-powered mining but also the energy used in the production of vehicles is greater than that of a gas-powered automobile and reliance on foreign materials -required!
