Follow the science! Sure, science can help us understand the natural world including biology and infectious diseases. Science is a guide, not a mandate. We cannot avoid all risk, danger and health complications. We CAN avoid public gatherings, wear a mask, sanitize and not interreact with other humans in order to to avoid a virus like covid-19, influenza or the common cold. It is the only way to stop the spread of human to human transmission. But at what cost?
By now, it is clear that health is comprised of more than just physical factors. Mental health, financial security, social interaction, learning, recreation and entertainment contribute to our overall well being and health. Yesterday, President Biden reinforced the ‘fear factor’, warning Americans our celebration of independence on July 4th should once again be restricted. Ironically, freedom cannot be freely celebrated IF we follow the dictates of the left, imploring us to “follow the science”. To do so would be avoiding all risk, or in other words remaining in a quasi-quarantine forever.
Instead, we should follow the SIGNS. Vaccinations have reached the vulnerable, nationally. Within a month or two, virtually every person likely to die from the virus will have had the opportunity to do so. Therefore, no mandates of any sort would be logical at that point.
95.5% of all deaths are adults 50 and older. 99.8% of the deaths are adults and according to President Biden, all adults will have had access to vaccines by May 1st. Again, follow the signs. Two months will be ample time to vaccinate all adults, therefore, by the 4th of July almost no one will die of the virus who is not willing to get the vaccine. Seems both logical and scientific. But there are other signs to follow.
Transmission rates are very low in schools, planes and restaurants. The economy has rebounded in many ways and Americans want normality. We cannot live in fear of the next variant, annual strain or flu outbreak. Freedom of movement, expression and assembly are vital to the American way of life. Moreover, the beloved data (cdc.gov) shows hospitalizations and infections have plummeted. Yet, the ‘crisis’ is prolonged indefinitely.
“It will be celebrated with pomp and parade, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.”
–John Adams, Second President of the United States
My challenge to Americans is to truly make this 4th of July, a day of INDEPENDENCE. Wherever you live, whomever you connect with nationally, find the courage to resist all mandates and covid-restrictions and spread the word.
