Common Sense

The left is slick in their usage of multimedia to create false narratives and weaponize words to misinform and propagandize the masses. One of their favorite phrases which masterfully influences many well meaning, thoughtful citizens is “common sense”. Common sense gun control, common sense health measures, common sense anti-racism – you have heard it before. Any counterargument comes off as radical, out of the mainstream and extreme. So let’s use Common Sense.

In January 1776, legendary patriot, Thomas Paine published Common Sense, during another tough winter when 2.5 million Americans were divided, angry, scared and looking for leadership. They desired liberty.

” The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind.”

This 47 page pamphlet was published and circulated at a time when more Americans leaned patriotic and against the crown. Questions over the rights of immigrants, religious liberty and fears over a smallpox epidemic loomed large over the colonies. An overbearing military force was present in the colonies and colonists balked at English taxation(without representation in Parliament). Over 80,000 copies would be sold in the winter of 1776.

Current attacks on Christians and Jews, migrant caravans approaching and 25,000 troops stationed in the Capitol today with promises of new taxes under Biden sound eerily familiar. Coronavirus lockdowns, restrictions and closures approach the one year mark. Sound familiar?

Paine wrote extensively on why independence from the crown was just and right. His works inspired and influenced many to organize and fight for independence from the King.

“Here then is the origin and rise of government; namely a mode rendered necessary by the inability of moral virtue to to govern the world; here too is the design and end of government, -freedom and security. And however our eyes may be dazzled with show, or our ears deceived by sound; however prejudice may warp out wills, or interest darken our understanding, the simple voice of nature and of reason will say, it is right.”

Despite the media barrage, negativity and falsehoods spoken by friends and family, the cause of true American justice and liberty is right and must be protected daily. As we face a Democratic political takeover in Washington, D.C. tomorrow, we must flock to platforms that will provide truth, opinion and news. We must vote, politically organize and support businesses, large and small, that share our values. We must avoid violence and negative media portrayal while at the same time exercising our Constitutional rights. Engaging in free speech, assembling in person and online, encouraging responsible gun ownership, support for the rule of law and military service are necessary. Patriotic Americans are up against a better trained, larger and more experienced ‘army’ of journalists, celebrities and institutional liberalism. The underdog was successful in the American Revolution and with dedication can prevail against the liberal forces of change.

“It is not in numbers, but in unity, that our great strength lies; yet our present numbers are sufficient to repel the force of all the world”

Thomas Paine Common Sense, 1776.
